The Story of the Hummingbird

A wild fire was ravaging the forest. All the animals ran from their homes looking for safety. They crowded by the river shivering with despair. There was nothing to be done but to bemoan the loss of their homes and maybe of their own life. A humming bird thought differently and started carrying a few drops of water at a time from the river to the fire. The other animals could not believe it and started shouting “What do you think you are doing?” In between runs from the river to the fire the hummingbird shouted back “I am doing what I can”.

The video of the Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Wangari Maathai tells the story of the small hummingbird which perfectly describes globally acclaimed artist Albena Hristova’s “Faces of the Earth” mission to inspire individuals, communities and corporations globally to become change agents united in effort to take action to protect our environment, our home.

“ART is a reflection of the infinite diversity of humanity. For me, art is a door from my soul to yours” I express myself through painting Mother Earth's Canvas. I love to travel and experience the natural landscapes around the world. I’ve had the opportunity to see firsthand the natural beauty and grandeur surrounding us. We all are changing, so is Mother Earth and my concern is that we are forgetting that Mother Earth is our only home and there is nowhere to run. The Fire is burning and we are crowding by the river in fear and ambivalence, doing nothing.

My humble desire is to challenge and help people to discover the Faces of the Earth not only through my canvases, but in their own environment. Think of the Faces of the Earth as the faces of your loved ones: your mother, your children, your friends. Think about what is at stake for all of us. Together we can put out the Fire and enjoy our beautiful home now and for generations to come.

I want each image of Faces of the Earth to be a question on the wall:

Are you doing what you can for  Mother Earth?
